DIY: Sweet Advent Calendar

It is one week till December and I’m in the festive mood since the beginning of November already. Last year Nika from Beautyfullblog gave the idea for DIY beauty advent calendar, but since my friends and family aren’t as crazy for cosmetics as I am, I have no one to do it for, so instead I decided to do a DIY advent calendar with sweets for my boyfriend. He’s such a sweet tooth and I knew it’ll be something that will make him happy. I know, I know, some of you will say that there are many chocolate advent calendars available by us (especially in Müller), but it’s the intention that matters and I bet you’ll make someone very happy with your DIY project. Plus, DIY projects are really fun to do and if you’re a creative person you’re really going to enjoy in this one.

What you’ll need:
  • cardboard
  • white (or colourful) paper
  • scissors
  • glue
  • 24 cups
  • wrapping paper
  • golden spray
  • marker pens
  • pencil
  • tape
  • sweets/cosmetics

First I took a cup and white papers, on which I draw 24 circles, one for each day. I cut them out and then I wrote numbers from 1 to 24 with different coloured markers. Then I placed them on old newspaper and sprayed them with golden spay. I left them for about a half an hour, so that the spray dried. I could also use different coloured papers instead of a white to make advent calendar more fun and colourful, but I had a feeling that would be too bright for my darling so I made something simpler.

I placed all cups on a cardboard to measure how big my cardboard should be. I decided to place my cups in a shape of a Christmas tree, but they could also be placed in a square or any other shape/design. Then I cut the access of a cardboard off. I didn’t cut the cardboard in a shape of a tree, but I left it square, because it’s easier to carry around that way. Then I wrapped the cardboard with a wrapping paper. I bought a blue wrapping paper with Christmas tree design on it, because blue is a colour I knew my boyfriend is going to like. In each cup I placed sweets and when circle papers were dry I glued them on the top of the cup (they can be opened as a window of taken down). Then I glued each cup on a cardboard (I was using a hot glue gun, because that glue really holds things better on place).  When I finished, I took a wrapping paper and wrapped it all over the cups, because they were transparent and I didn’t want for my boyfriend to see what I prepared for him for each day. I kind of have a feeling that he will open all windows at once, because he already wanted to open it, but I said no, you have to wait till December. And that was it. It took me around two hours, maybe a bit longer, to do this calendar, but I had much fun during the process.

If you will Google DIY advent calendar or search for it on Pinterest, you’ll get many hits, because there are plenty ideas and you can use anything, from papers, cardboards, muffin pan, paper rolls ... A beauty or a chocolate advent calendar, made for people you love is a nice gesture and I think everyone will love it.
